Struggling with a spaniel who pulls like a train?
A labrador who jumps up at all of your friends?
A pointer that just won't stop chasing birds?
...1:1 gundog training might be exactly what you're looking for!
Even if your gundog is a family pet and you have no desire to take them on shoots, these breeds are built to work — and without the right outlet, those instincts often bubble over into everyday struggles.
At Paw Forward, we offer positive, practical and breed-informed gundog training in our private field in Stoke Golding, near Hinckley and Burbage. These sessions are all about fulfilling your dog’s natural needs in a fun, structured way — building focus, calmness and a strong bond with you.
Whether you’ve got a spaniel, labrador, golden retriever, or another gundog breed, your dog was bred for a job. And when they don’t get to use their natural skills – like hunting, retrieving, or holding focus on a handler – you often see problems like:
Gundog training taps into exactly what your dog is wired to do. It channels their instincts in a way that builds listening, responsiveness, and calm behaviour – not through strict obedience, but through fun, purposeful work that feels right to your dog.
And it’s not just for gundog breeds! Any breed who enjoys using their nose, retrieving, or working alongside their human can benefit from these sessions.
Every session is adapted to your dog’s ability and experience, but we commonly work on:
All training is force-free, reward-based, and designed to be stress-free for both of you. These sessions are ideal for pet homes who want a bit of structure, confidence, and calmness — without taking things too seriously.
You get support that’s specific to your dog’s breed, personality, and pace — no generic advice or rushed exercises.
With fewer distractions and all the focus on you, we can cover more in each session and adapt instantly to what your dog needs.
Some dogs struggle in group settings — 1:1s help build confidence without the pressure.
No need to commit to the same day every week or travel at awkward times — we can book around your availability.
Whether you’re preparing for group classes, polishing specific skills, or just exploring the fun of gundog work, we follow your goals, not a fixed syllabus.
If you’d rather train alongside others, or want to build on your 1:1 sessions with real-life distractions, check out our Gundog Skills Course – a fun, supportive group class with a strong foundation in focus, recall, and heelwork.
Or, when you’re ready, you can join our Gundog Club – a relaxed, informal group where we practise together, have fun, and keep those skills sharp.
(Not sure which is right for you? Just get in touch and I’ll help you choose!)
